11/3/2009 - DAYTON, Ohio -- Commemorate the anniversary of the greatest engineering feat in modern history, the International Space Station, during Family Day from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.

Designed for children and adults of all ages, Family Day offers several hands-on opportunities for all to enjoy.

This month, visitors will have a variety of activities to choose from. An Aerospace Adventure will allow participants to build their own space station out of recycled materials. This will take place in the Modern Flight Gallery from 2-3:30 p.m. and families and youth groups can stop by anytime during this period to participate.

All Aerospace Demonstration Stations will demonstrate the principles behind rocket flight. Stations will be located throughout the galleries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to hear "The Incredible International Space Station." Learn the who, what, when, where and how of the greatest engineering feat in modern history. The presentation will take place from 1:15 to 2 p.m. in the Carney Auditorium.

"Storytime" begins at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the Early Years Gallery. Preschool and primary-grade children are invited to sit under the wings of airplanes, listen to stories about space travel and then build their own paper rocket.

The event is free and visitors of all ages may participate in these aviation-related activities located throughout the museum galleries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No advanced reservations are necessary. Call the Education Division at (937) 255-8048 for additional information.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
