3/13/2012 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The United States Air Force Band of Flight will present its fourth annual guest artist concert March 24 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
This free concert will feature the Concert Band and special guest, Musica!, a local professional choral ensemble.
"This year we wanted to showcase some wonderful local talent at our annual guest artist concert," said Band of Flight Commander Maj. R. Michael Mench.
Musica! has been performing for Dayton and the Miami Valley since its inception in 1990. Under the direction of guest conductor Ginger Thomas Minneman, Musica! performs a variety of musical styles from Baroque to Broadway, classics to spirituals and madrigals to vocal jazz. Minneman is a singer, conductor and educator.
The first half of the concert will feature the Concert Band performing band transcriptions of two orchestral works: Hector Berlioz's "Roman Carnival Overture" and Dmitri Shostakovich's "Finale" from Symphony No. 5.
Musica! will perform six pieces on their own and then combine with the Concert Band for a medley of George M. Cohan songs to close out the first half of the concert.
In the second half of the show, soloists from Musica! will sing selections by Aaron Copland and Gilbert & Sullivan with the Concert Band. Then, the Concert Band and Musica! will join together for a patriotic closer.
This program is part of an annual series presented by the Band of Flight at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are required, but seating is limited to the first 1,200 people.
The next performance in the series will be the Glenn Miller Concert presented on May 19. For more information on that show, please call (937) 255-5924 or visit http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/news&events/concerts.asp. |
