4/3/2012 - DAYTON, Ohio -- More than 200 pieces of art created by local students from schools across the Miami Valley will be on display at the National Museum of the U.S Air Force during the 29th Annual Student Aviation Art Competition and Exhibition. The exhibit will be open from April 8 through May 6.
Student artists from both private and public schools in Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Clark and Warren counties created artwork based on the theme "Aircraft Exhibits for Our New Galleries," referring to the museum's planned fourth building, which will house a Space Gallery, Presidential Aircraft Gallery and Global Reach Gallery.
Students were encouraged to research the types of aerospace vehicles that might be displayed in the fourth building, and their teachers challenged them to use their imaginations to explore and create their own artistic interpretations, providing an opportunity for students to honor the rich heritage and history of the United States Air Force.
Student artwork on display will be judged in seven grade-based categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and special education grades K-6 and 7-12.
The exhibit may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily near the B-1B in the museum's Cold War Gallery.
The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
