5/25/2012 - DAYTON, Ohio -- Looking for fun and affordable activities for your children this summer? Space is still available for five exciting aerospace camps at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Campers who have completed grades 2-9 will be able to learn about a variety of topics through hands-on activities that incorporate history, science and math concepts, as well as team-building skills. Base clearance is not required to participate.

The "Go for Launch!" aerospace camp will take place from 9 a.m.-noon on June 18-22. Students who have finished grades 5-6 and who have previously had little or no experience building model rockets, airplanes or plastic kits of any kind, will have the opportunity to learn about the history and science of rocketry, and build and launch several model rockets. Cost is $70 per camper.

Students who have completed grades 6-8 may participate in the "Liftoff!" aerospace camp from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on June 25-29. This intermediate level model rocket camp is designed for students who have had some experience building model rockets, airplanes or plastic kits of any kind. The camp will provide them with an opportunity to learn about the history and science of rocketry and will also allow them to build and launch several model rockets. Cost is $80 per camper.

The "Into the Wild Blue Yonder!" aerospace camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on July 9-13 for students who have finished grades 4-6. This is a beginning level camp and is designed for those with little or no background knowledge of the principles of flight. Campers will learn the basics about five different aspects of flight: airplanes, kites, hot air balloons, helicopters and rockets. Cost is $40 per camper.

"Soaring High!" is designed for students who have completed grades 6-9. The camp will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 23-27, and students will have the opportunity to experience the exciting world of flight by building and flying a variety of paper and Styrofoam gliders as they progress to a large balsa and hardwood high performance hand-launch glider. Campers will also learn about the steps involved in becoming a pilot, hear personal stories from a veteran, and take a field trip to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Aero Club where they will have the opportunity to climb into and learn about the controls of a civilian aircraft. Cost is $70 per camper.

The last camp of the year is intended for those students who have finished grades 2-3. "High Flying Adventure!" will take place from 9 a.m.-noon on July 30-Aug. 3 and provides campers the opportunity to examine flight through a series of aviation-oriented books and a variety of hands-on activities. Cost is $35 per camper.
