7/31/2012 - DAYTON, Ohio -- Celebrate National Aviation Day with free educational activities during Family Day at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 18.

National Aviation Day is a celebration of all things related to aviation and is held on the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday (141 years ago on Aug. 19). The museum will look at some achievements in aviation and aerospace from the time of the Wright brothers' first flight to modern Air Force technology with a variety of aerospace demonstration stations throughout the day.

These aviation and space topics are appropriate for all ages. Activities will include "flying" in an F-16 simulator, building and flying foam gliders and playing Bernoulli Skee Ball. Visitors also will witness some modern-day technologies with a look at fuel cells and nanotechnology.

In addition, there will be a storytime program for younger visitors at 11:30 a.m. and again at 1:15 p.m. that will feature stories of flight and include a hands-on craft project.

In conjunction with Family Day, the IMAX Theatre will offer special prices for Air Racers, which shows at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. On Aug. 18, admission to see Air Racers is $6 for adults and $4.50 for children ages 3-college. For more information about the IMAX Theatre, visit http://www.airforcemuseum.com/imax-theatre.

Family Day is free and visitors of all ages may participate in these aviation-related activities located throughout the museum galleries. No advance reservations are necessary. Call the Education Division at (937) 255-4646 for additional information.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton.
