8/14/2012 - DAYTON, Ohio -- Visitors will see some of history's well-known airframes at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over Labor Day weekend, but they won't be the ones inside the galleries. Instead, scale versions of those aircraft will fly over the museum, regaling spectators with daring aerobatics.
The 17th annual Giant Scale Radio-Controlled (RC) Model Aircraft Air Show is scheduled for Aug. 31-Sept. 2. More than 100 pilots will entertain audiences as they perform skillful maneuvers with RC jets, warbirds and helicopters from all eras of aviation history.
Sponsored by the Dayton Ohio Giant Scalers, the air show will take place each day from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., including a half-time show from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. daily to show off the talents and abilities of the RC pilots. Note: Please watch the museum's website or social media networks for weather updates.
The event is open to the public, and admission and parking are free. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase.
Those interested in attending the show can enter either through the Spinning Road gate, located off Airway Road, or the main museum gate off Springfield Street, and follow the signs to the event area behind the museum. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
