Mr. Skelton, a retired senior master sergeant who resides at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, represented the 966th Airborne Early Warning and Control Squadron “Gold Diggers,” a Vietnam war-era EC-121 Constellation unit originally from the former McCoy AFB, Orlando, Fla. He said he had looked at a number of charities and found the Fisher House has “one of the lowest – if not the lowest – ratio of overhead versus money donated. A military free fall is a precision airborne insertion technique used by special operations teams. Forces can be accurately inserted miles from the intended landing area while carrying more than 100 pounds of equipment. Sergeant Chandler said the group was able to conduct nine training jumps, up to a combat equipment jump with 50-pound ruck sacks attached to their parachutes before leaving the plane at 10,000 feet.
