Monthly Family Days

The museum’s Education Division hosts Family Days one Saturday a month (excluding December).  These programs are designed for children and adults of all ages and offers several hands-on opportunities for all to enjoy. Aerospace demonstration stations are located throughout the museum's galleries to teach fun aerospace principles.  Each month features a new theme; such themes include engineering, meteorology, gravity, and space.

August Family Day

August 17, 2019 – National Aviation Day

National Aviation Day is Aug. 19 every year, on the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday, and is a celebration of all things related to aviation. Orville Wright was born on August 19, 1871, in Dayton, Ohio (148 years ago). Commemorate National Aviation Day by learning about the history and technology of aerospace.

  

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.     A variety of demos/activities that illustrate the science behind aviation

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.      Virtual Reality Experience
                               Learn about aviation history in VR
                               Location: Building 4

 

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.      Celebrate aviation history fly an indoor Drone through an obstacle course
                               Location: Building 2

 

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.      Demonstrations of Robots and their aerospace abilities
                              See the Powerstackers and Innovators robotics group in action.
                              Location: Building 4

 

  9 a.m. – 3 p.m.     Civil Air Patrol STEM Activities/Demonstrations
                                Location: Building 3

 

10:30 a.m.             Air Force Drones
                              Hear a presentation about how the Air Force uses military drones.
                              Location: Building 4, Global Reach Gallery

 

11:30 a.m.             Storytime
                              Preschool and primary-grade children and their families are invited to listen to aviation
                              related stories, followed by a hands-on activity.
                              Location:  Building 4, Presidential Gallery STEM Learning Node

 

12:30 p.m.             Presidential Aircraft Briefing
                               Learn additional fun facts about the Museum’s extensive collection of Presidential
                               aircraft during a special 15-minute long briefing.
                               Location:  Building 4, Presidential Gallery STEM Learning Node

 

1:15 p.m.               Storytime
                               Preschool and primary-grade children and their families are invited to listen to aviation
                               related stories, followed by a hands-on activity.

1:30 p.m.              X-Planes
                              Learn about the Museums one of a kind collection of experimental aircraft.
                              Location: Building 4, Global Reach Gallery

 

2:00 p.m.                Presidential Aircraft Briefing
                                Learn additional fun facts about the Museum’s extensive collection of Presidential
                                aircraft during a special 15-minute long briefing.

Celebrate the fall while learning how we can overcome and cope with the force that causes falling!


November 16, 2019 – Exploring Engineering

Learn about engineering through fun demonstrations and hands-on activities.

 

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Spooktacular Aerospace Fun Family Day scheduled for October 26th has been cancelled.
