  • Tips for Successful Visit

    Here are some tips for making your visit to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force on Home School STEM Day a very successful experience:

    • Arrive early, especially if you are registered to attend one of the four hands-on classes in the 4th building. You will need to report to the classroom area at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your class.
    • No pre-registration is required for any of the other activities.
    • Bring extra adults to assist getting your children to multiple locations (the museum is a very large place!).
    • Familiarize yourself with the museum ahead of time by visiting our website. For a really special treat, take a virtual tour of the museum -- you can even look into some of the cockpits!
    • In addition to the specially-scheduled Home School STEM Day activities (classes, scavenger hunts, Presidential Aircraft Briefings, and science demo stations), attendees may want to:  
    • Food options: http://www.afmuseum.com/dining.  Please note that food and drinks (including water bottles) cannot be brought into the museum galleries.
    • The museum has a limited number of wheelchairs and strollers available for your use in the building at no charge. These are located in the lobby just past the Membership desk and at other volunteer stations throughout the Museum.
    • The museum has family restrooms available: one in Kettering Hall, one in the Cold War Gallery, and two in the 4th building.

There are several public tours available at the National
Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
There are a variety of
ways to tour the museum's facilities. Special
arrangements can
be made for school, Scouts and
youth groups, motorcoach tours and military reunion

Presidential Gallery "Briefings"

Three short, 15 minute briefings providing background information and fun facts on the Museum’s one-of-a-kind collection of Presidential aircraft will be offered in the STEM Learning Node located in the Presidential Gallery at 11:00AM, 11:30AM and 12:00PM. No pre-registration required. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fourth Building Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt of the Museum’s new 4th building will be available for pick-up near the entrance to the 4th building from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This is a self-guided family activity that may be completed anytime throughout the day.

STEM Demo Stations

Science, technology and engineering principles will be demonstrated at various stations in the center of the museum’s second building. Stop by any of the stations from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for a quick and informative demo/activity.
