Guided tours of the 4th building, normally scheduled at 3:00 p.m. daily, are canceled through May 28.

Effective immediately, the William E. Boeing Presidential Gallery will have limited guest access due to scheduled event preparations. The only accessible exhibits during this time include: Douglas VC-54 Sacred Cow, Flying the President Exhibit, USAF Established Artifact. We anticipate full gallery access will resume by June 5, 2025.

HELISTORM 2025 - MAY 29-JUNE 1

A large-scale, four-day outdoor event featuring about 150 AMA-certified scale, radio-controlled helicopter pilots flying about 150 advanced model aircraft on the Front Field. The event includes flying demonstrations, STEM education stations, flight skills competitions, and vendor exhibits. It is designed to promote aerospace engagement, highlight aerodynamics and flight technologies, and inspire interest in aviation careers. This will be one of our most immersive and technology-forward public programs this year.​

EVENT SCHEDULE

Thursday - May 29

9:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. -- Pilots arrive at the museum. Open flying by registered HeliStorm pilots begins on the museum's front field. Viewing is available in the public watch area.

 

Friday - May 30

9:00 a.m. -- Open flying is open for public viewing
9:30 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. -- Competition: Precision Hover - Round 1 - Hover Area
10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. -- Competition: Military Flight - Round 1 - Leonardo/Bell Areas
10-30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. -- Open Aircraft: explore several real-world U.S. Air Force helicopters and aircraft on display inside the museum

  • Sikorsky UH-19B “Hopalong” – One of the first helicopters to complete a transatlantic flight in 1952.
  • Sikorsky HH-60G “Pave Hawk” – Credited with rescuing five soldiers during a 2004 sandstorm mission in Iraq.
  • Sikorsky CH-3E “Black Mariah” – Used in highly classified missions during the Southeast Asia War.
  • Sikorsky HH-3E “Jolly Green Giant” – Flown in combat search and rescue operations during the Vietnam War.
  • Sikorsky UH-19B “Chickasaw” – Served widely as a multi-role transport helicopter across all U.S. military branches during the 1950s and 1960s.
