F-86 Replaces F-80
A transition occurred from one generation of aircraft to the next. The swept-wing F-86 Sabre (bottom left) began replacing the F-80 Shooting Star (upper left) as the USAF's primary day fighter in Korea late in 1950. A year later, the F-94 Starfire (bottom right) replaced the propeller-driven F-82 Twin Mustang (upper right) as the USAF's night fighter in Korea and Japan. (U.S. Air Force photo)
