Crew Compartment Trainer
STS-41 Mission Specialist Thomas D. Akers, wearing a launch and entry suit helmet, tumbles out of the Crew Compartment Trainer (CCT) during side hatch emergency egress exercises in June 1990. Using the crew escape system pole, Akers simulated the procedures necessary to bailout of the shuttle during the ascent phase. A technician assists Akers, rolling across an inflated safety pad, as a second technician looks on. In the open side hatch, another crewmember prepares for egress. (NASA photo)
