Crew Compartment Trainer
A shuttle crew escape systems test is conducted by astronauts Steven R. Nagel (left) and Manley L. (Sonny) Carter in Johnson Space Center's Crew Compartment Trainer (CCT) in March 1987. Nagel and Carter are evaluating methods for crew escape during space shuttle controlled gliding flight. Here, Carter serves as test subject evaluating egress positioning for the tractor rocket escape method -- one of the two systems being closely studied by NASA. (NASA photo)
