Crew Compartment Trainer

Attired in partial pressure launch and entry suits, payload specialists Dr. Jean-Jacques Favier and Dr. Chiaki Mukai rehearse launch and entry procedures on Dec. 22, 1993. Dr. Favier of the French space agency, Centre National D'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) is the backup for Dr. Mukai of Japan, the payload specialist representing the National Space Development Agency (NASDA) onboard Columbia. Dr. Favier will communicate with the International Microgravity Lab's crew from the ground during the scheduled 13-day flight. The two joined six NASA astronauts at Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Shuttle Mockup and Integration Laboratory for the training session. (NASA photo)
