This piece of wood was removed from Lt. Quentin Roosevelt's Nieuport 28 after he was shot down on July 14, 1918. The message on it was written by George G. Shurtz, chaplain of the 308th Engineer Regiment, during World War I. (U.S. Air Force photo)
