Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker & 94th Aero Squadron Insignia
Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker was the charismatic commander of the 94th Aero Squadron and was America’s highest scoring ace of World War I. The 94th Aero Squadron was known informally as the “Hat in the Ring Squadron,” a name that was inspired by their insignia. Rickenbacker was fond of the design, as he describes in his journal entry for April 12, 1918. (U.S. Air Force photo)
