Medal of Honor-Captain Jay Zeamer
DAYTON, Ohio -- Rear side of Capt. Jay Zeamer's Medal of Honor on display in the WWII Gallery at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Zeamer's remarkable B-17 crew was the most highly-decorated aircrew in history. Zeamer and the bombardier, 2nd Lt. Joseph Sarnoski, received the Medal of Honor, while seven other members of the crew were awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Nation's second highest honor. Nearly all received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. (U.S. Air Force photo by Ken LaRock)
