See Giant Scale Model Aircraft take to the skies over Labor Day weekend at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

DAYTON, Ohio --  

Visitors will see some of history’s well-known airframes at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over Labor Day weekend, but they won’t just be the ones inside the galleries. Scale versions of those aircraft will fly over the museum, regaling spectators with daring aerobatics.

 

The Giant Scale Radio-Controlled (RC) Model Aircraft Air Show is scheduled for Sept. 1-3. More than 100 pilots will entertain audiences as they perform skillful maneuvers with RC jets, warbirds and helicopters from all eras of aviation history.

Hosted by the Dayton Ohio Giant Scalers in partnership with Horizon Hobby, LLC, the air show will take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday.  Each day will include a noon-time show for the RC pilots to show off their talents and abilities.  In addition, Horizon Hobby, LLC will provide a “try me” station for visitors to try their hand at flying a RC aircraft.

The event is open to the public, and admission and parking are free. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase.

Those interested in attending the show can enter either through the Spinning Road gate, located off Airway Road, or the main museum gate off Springfield Street, and follow the signs to the event area behind the museum. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
