The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force has cancelled the annual Giant Scale Radio-Controlled Model Aircraft Show and the July and August Family Days as the impacts of sequestration continue.

The events are being cancelled due to restrictions associated with the planned Department of Defense furloughs, which are scheduled to begin July 8. The museum's 95 civilian employees will be affected by the furlough.

The main museum complex, which houses the majority of the collection, will remain open to visitors from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week, with free admission and parking.

The museum will continue programming that is unaffected by sequestration, such as Family Day on June 1 and the opening of an art exhibit highlighting the Tuskegee Airmen. In addition, the Air Force Museum Foundation plans to have new offerings in the coming months at its newly-renovated 3D digital theatre.

"Despite these challenging times, we are committed to our mission of sharing the Air Force story with our visitors and inspiring our youth," Hudson said. "We are fortunate that we've been able to keep the main museum buildings open seven days a week, continue to provide some programming, and be available 24/7 through our website and virtual tour."
