Learn about the power of air during Family Day

DAYTON, Ohio -- Children and their families will have the opportunity to ride a small hovercraft while learning about the power of air during Family Day on May 20 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

Designed for children and adults of all ages, Family Day offers several aviation-related experiences. The day begins at 10 a.m. with a guided tour featuring a fast-paced overview of aviation history. The tour is designed to appeal to all ages.

"Storytime" follows at 11:30 a.m. in the Early Years Gallery. Preschool and primary-grade children are invited to sit under the wings of airplanes and listen to thrilling stories about aviation and space.

This month's Aerospace Adventure allows participants to ride a small hovercraft while learning about the power of air. This activity is free for visitors of all ages and takes place from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the museum's Modern Flight Gallery. No advanced reservations are necessary.

In addition to those programs, visitors can participate in aviation-related demonstration stations throughout the museum galleries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., including one station which will feature the opportunity to learn about projectile trajectory while launching ping pong balls from a tube.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Pike, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
