110 years ago, on Dec. 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first successful powered, heavier-than-air flight in Kitty Hawk, N.C. These two brothers from Dayton were the first of a number of Ohioans who have played an integral role in the history of the United States Air Force and its predecessor organizations. The history of many of these contributions, from the early days of flight through the Space Age, is outlined in the latest self-guided audio tour available from the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.

The "Ohio's Aviation Heritage" audio tour is narrated by the Wright brothers' great-grandniece Amanda Wright Lane and uses museum exhibits to tell the story of Ohio's role in the development of aviation. Visitors can download the free podcast or listen to individual audio files on the museum's website at www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/podcasts/ohtour.asp.

Other self-guided audio tours available at www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/podcasts/index.asp include an overview of the museum's galleries and an in-depth tour on intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance lessons taught throughout the museum's Early Years and World War II Galleries.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
