1944 Curtiss A-25A (S/N 42-80449 / BuNo 76805) Aircraft Project, owned by the National Museum of the United States Air Force (NMUSAF) and determined excess to collection needs. Aircraft has a Wright R-2600-8 engine, is not airworthy or suitable for flight purposes but suitable for static display and parts use only. Original data plate is not present and no maintenance log books are available for the aircraft and engine.
The Curtiss A-25 Shrike was a single-engine, two-seat dive bomber. A modified version of the U.S. Navy's new SB2C Helldiver, the U.S. Army Air Corps ordered 100 A-25s in 1940. The U.S. Army Air Forces ordered 3,000 in February 1942 and Curtiss manufactured 900 before cancellation. The USAAF subsequently transferred 410 A-25s to the U.S. Marine Corps. Of those remaining in USAAF service, some flew as trainers or light personnel and cargo transports, and none in combat service.
The aircraft offered for exchange was acquired by the USAAF during 1944 and transferred to the US Marine Corps for operational training. The project includes parts from two additional SB2C airframes.
