1918 Military Poems Booklet

This 47-page pocket-size booklet consists of military-related poems and cartoon drawings created by R. Gallatovits and S. Gratton of the 633rd Aero Squadron at Kelly Field, Texas. It was compiled in 1918 for members of the 633rd Aero Squadron to carry with them from training at Kelly Field into combat in Europe -- to help provide the soldiers with a comfort in knowing that that they were not alone in what was being experienced in training and war. 


Poem titles included "Ode to Our Chief," "Song of a Drafted Man the First Night in Camp," "A Soldier’s Fear," "Our Dear Mother," "The Sign of the Red Cross;," "When the War is Going to End," "I Want to Go Home"  and "Soldier’s Prayer."

 

The booklet measures 6 inches high by 3-1/2 inches wide.
