U.S. Entry into World War I

The United States declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917. Although the reasons were varied and complex, the one having the greatest emotional impact upon the "average American" was Germany's introduction of unrestricted submarine warfare following the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915.
