Pararescuemen and Combat Rescue Officers

Air Force Pararescue Jumpers (or PJs) act as the surface-to-air link during personnel recovery in both friendly and hostile areas. They are skilled in treating injuries, which PJs often see when recovering personnel. They can bring people out of difficult situations day or night, in mountains or jungles, in arctic or desert conditions, and even in choppy seas. Pararescuemen are highly proficient swimmers, expert riflemen, and masters of evasion techniques and land navigation. USAF PJs have saved thousands of military and civilian lives in combat situations, in accidents and during natural disasters.

Combat Rescue Officers oversee organization and training and deploy as direct combat commanders or operations planners.
