Training with the Royal Flying Corps

Note: This item is currently in storage.

Edward Sloan, assigned to the 34th Aero Squadron, arrived in England in September 1917 to complete his technical training with the Royal Flying Corps before making his way to the Front. Sloan was assigned to Halton Camp (now RAF Halton), near Wendover, and quickly discovered that the camp was responsible for training troops from all throughout the British Empire. This photo was taken at Halton Camp in October 1917 and was captioned by Sloan:

“U.S., England, Australia, New Zealand, Scotch soldiers represented in this picture. Ed Sloan, bottom row with dog. The dog came by. I called to him.”

Sloan remained with the 34th Aero Squadron until February, 1918, when he was reassigned to the 16th Aero Squadron for the remainder of the war.
