Sunday, Jan. 13

Science, Discovery and Family Fun, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

This will be a fun event for young people and their families and will feature interactive science and technology displays and demonstrations and a performance by the Air Force Band of Flight.  The event is free and open to the public. Among the many demonstrations planned are robotics, virtual reality, flight simulation, wind tunnel, rocketry, optics, fuel cells, engineering structures and scanning electron microscopes. Maj. Gen. William Cooley, Air Force Research Laboratory commander, will kick off the event at 1 p.m. Demos and displays open at 1:15 p.m. and the Air Force Band of Flight will perform at 2:30 p.m. FREE Virtual Reality and Simulator rides throughout the day! Click here for more information.

D-Day Commemoration – 75^th Anniversary

Plans are underway at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force for an event to commemorate the 75^th Anniversary of D-Day. This event will include World War II living history re-enactors, guest speakers and more. D-Day, also known as the Battle of Normandy, occurred on June 6, 1944. It began the Allied invasion of Europe, which liberated millions from the Nazis and ultimately ended the war in Europe. Click here for more information.

Giant Scale Radio-Controlled (RC) Model Aircraft Air Show, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Visitors will see some of history’s well-known airframes at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over Labor Day weekend, but they won’t just be the ones inside the galleries. Scale versions of those aircraft will fly over the museum, regaling spectators with daring aerobatics. RC pilots will entertain audiences as they perform skillful maneuvers with jets, warbirds and helicopters from all eras of aviation history. Click here for more information.

Big Band Concert featuring Glenn Miller music performed by Air Force Bands, 7:30 p.m.

Air Force Band of Flight and the Air Force Band of Mid-America will perform a free Big Band Concert featuring Glenn Miller music at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force on Sept. 6 and 7. Due to the popularity of these free concerts, tickets are required and limited to four tickets per person. The Air Force Band of Flight, stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio presents more than 240 performances annually. The Band of Mid-America, stationed at Scott AFB, Illinois performs throughout a ten-state region from the upper peninsula of Michigan to Arkansas. Click here for more information.
