Capt. Kenneth M. Stewart
Capt. Kenneth M. Stewart, F-51 pilot (left), and Lt. John Najarian after the former's rescue from the Taedong River -- 90 miles behind North Korean lines. In one of the daring and spectacular rescues in air history, Najarian and crew, under enemy fire and in darkness, risked collision with power lines, towers, submerged rocks, and floating debris to land their HU-16, without lights, in the dangerously shallow river to rescue Stewart. In this 1951 photo, they are examining the CO2 cylinders that inflated Stewart's life preserver. (U.S. Air Force photo)
