Iconic Starfighters: Rivals of the Silver Screen is a limited-time special exhibit at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force featuring two full-scale, fan-created spacecraft inspired by iconic science fiction film designs. On loan from the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) with funding support from the Air Force Museum Foundation, the exhibit is on display through Dec. 31, 2026, in the Museum’s Fourth Building Special Exhibit Space. The full-scale recreations were created by Firewatch Design Studios. Iconic Starfighters is not affiliated with or endorsed by Disney or Lucasfilm.

Developed as a prototype for the USAAF in 1940s, the Kellett XR-8 tested the idea of stabilizing a helicopter by using dual offset horizontal rotors to eliminate the need to power a tail rotor.
