Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to run in outer space? On May 15, you can find out during the "Space Fest Fun Run: Space Costume Edition" at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.

After a rocket launch kicks things off, participants will race through a scale-version of the solar system, starting at the sun and passing all the planets, and perhaps meeting a few "extraterrestrials" along the way. A 1-mile race for children begins at 6 p.m., followed by a 5K run/walk for all ages at 6:30 p.m. All participants are encouraged to wear their favorite space-related costume! Prizes will be awarded in a variety of costume categories.

Pre-registration entry fee for the kids' race is $15, which includes a t-shirt. Registration also will be offered on the day of the event for $15, but a t-shirt is not guaranteed. Ribbons will be given to all children who participate.

Pre-registration entry fee for the 5K run is $20 per person, which includes a t-shirt (fee increases to $25 after April 25). Registration also will be offered on the day of the event for $30, but a t-shirt is not guaranteed.

Registration forms for both races are available at www.active.com/page/event_details_fn.htm?event_id=E-00HD8CHZ or at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base fitness centers. Base access is not required to participate.

The races are part of the museum's annual Space Fest event, which takes place from 6-11 p.m. on Friday, May 15 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, May16. Friday evening activities will include a discounted space-related movie and special guest speaker at the Air Force Museum Theatre, as well as a star-gaze with telescopes. Throughout the day on Saturday, the museum and a number of partner organizations will offer hands-on activities for all ages, including special appearances by astronauts, a chance to see the museum's Space Shuttle Exhibit, model rocket building and launching, and much more.

Admission to most activities is free, although there are costs associated with the 5K run, movies at the Air Force Museum Theatre and flight simulators. For up-to-date details about the event, please visit www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/spacefest.asp.
