Welcome spring with kite stories, kite building and kite flying during Family Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 19 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.

Visitors can observe the incredible sport of indoor kite flying by watching members of local kite clubs fly their kites indoors with no wind! This activity takes place in the event area next to the Korean War Gallery from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Other demonstration stations throughout the day will teach visitors about the properties of air and flying.

"Storytime" begins at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in the Early Years Gallery. Preschool and primary-grade children are invited to sit under the wings of airplanes to hear stories about kites and do a craft project.

Participants can make their own kites during this month's Aerospace Adventure from 1:30-3 p.m. in the event area next to the Korean War Gallery. Paper kites are free, but there is a $2.50 charge for plastic sled kites. Outdoor kite flying will be available (weather permitting).

The event is free, and visitors of all ages may participate in these aviation-related activities located throughout the museum galleries. No advanced reservations are necessary. Call the Education Division at (937) 255-4646 for additional information.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
