Students can sign up for an aviation adventure this summer! The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will offer four affordable and exciting aerospace summer day camps in 2014. Campers will learn about a variety of topics through hands-on activities that incorporate history, science and math concepts, as well as team-building skills.

"Model Rocketry" day camps will be offered on Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27 (Friday is a repeat of Thursday's camp). Campers, ages 11-14, will learn basic rocketry principles as they build and launch a beginning‐level model rocket. Cost is $25 per camper.

Students, ages 9-12, may participate in the "Kite Tales" aerospace camp on Friday, July 11. Campers will learn about the history and aerodynamics of kites as they make and fly two different types of kites. Cost is $10 per camper.

The "Lighter than Air Flight" aerospace camp will be held on Friday, Aug. 1 for students, ages 10-12. Campers will learn about the history and principles of lighter than air flight as they build and "launch" a tissue paper hot air balloon model in the museum's 120‐foot tall Missile Gallery. Cost is $10 per camper.

All camps take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and camp t-shirts cost an extra $8.

Those who are interested must register in advance at www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/education/camp/index.asp. Base clearance is not required to participate.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force is located on Springfield Street, six miles northeast of downtown Dayton. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Admission and parking are free.
