DAYTON, Ohio -- Registration for four affordable and exciting summer aerospace camps is now open at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
Campers who have completed grades 4-8 will be able to learn about a variety of topics through hands-on activities that incorporate history, science and math concepts, as well as team-building skills. Base clearance is not required to participate.
The “Go for Launch” aerospace camp will take place from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on June 28. Students who have finished grades 6-8 will learn the basics of the exciting field of rocketry while building and launching two model rockets! Students will be able to launch their rockets between 9-10:30 a.m. on June 30 on the museum’s front lawn. Cost is $40 per camper, with an optional camp t-shirt available for an additional $10.
A repeat of the “Go for Launch” camp will take place from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on June 29, with those students launching rockets from 10:30 a.m.-noon on June 30 on the museum’s front lawn. Again, the cost is $40 per camper, with an optional camp t-shirt available for an additional $10.
Students who have completed grades 4-6 will explore the world of flight during the “Exploring Flight” aerospace camp from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on July 13. Students will build a variety of fun flying projects, including kites, gliders and paper rockets. Cost is $15 per camper, with an optional camp t-shirt available for an additional $10.
The “Exploring Engineering” aerospace camp will be held from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on July 27 for students who have finished grades 6-8. Campers will explore the world of engineering while participating in several design challenges and engineering projects! Cost is $15 per camper, with an optional camp t-shirt available for an additional $10.
All camps will utilize the new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Learning Nodes in the museum’s fourth building, which opens to the public on June 8. Students also will have the opportunity to tour related galleries in the new building.
