Mareeba Butchers

This B-40 flight jacket was painted in 1945 by a squadron artist for the donor, a B-24 pilot with the 403rd Bomb Squadron, 43rd Bomb Group. The squadron had been based at Mareeba, Australia, in early 1943 and the nickname was given to the unit by radio propagandist "Tokyo Rose," who claimed that during one mission the unit has specifically attacked women and children. The donor flew missions from the Philippine Islands and Ie Shima Island against targets in Southeast Asia and the Japanese mainland.

This jacket was donated by Maj. Arlo B. Roth, USAF (Ret.), Burnet, Texas.

Screening at Entrance
All visitors may be screened with a metal detector upon entry. In addition all bags are subject to search and may be placed through an X-Ray machine. Weapons are not permitted including pocket knives and firearms, to include conceal carry and other dangerous weapons.
